Movement Psychotherapy
“When I have been listened to and when I have been heard, I am able to re-perceive my world in a new way and to go on.” Carl Rogers
What is Movement Focused Psychotherapy?
Movement Psychotherapy is an approach to psychotherapy that works with the whole of our being, body, mind, emotion and lived experience. As well as talking, we draw on movement, body sensation and creative expression — responding to what you bring and what emerges in the process. It is grounded in the understanding that body and mind are inseparable, and that our bodies hold experiences, feelings and stories that thinking and talking alone may not be able to reach.
Movement Psychotherapy offers an environment that nurtures a deeper connection to ourselves and our bodies. It encourages new ways of relating to self, others and the wider world, and supports the development of the inner resources needed to hold both the joys and the challenges of life.
How does it work?
In sessions we work together using both verbal and non-verbal approaches. Movement, gesture, breath, stillness, imagery and creative expression are all welcome alongside talking. I hold a safe, containing space in which you can explore what is present — at a pace that supports processing and integration. My approach is trauma-informed and person-centred. I follow your lead, working with what you bring, and supporting you to find your way forward.
Who is it for?
Movement Psychotherapy is for everyone — there is no right or wrong way to move, and no experience is needed. It can support adults experiencing a wide range of challenges, including:
- Anxiety, stress or low mood
- Trauma or post-traumatic stress
- Difficulties with body image or relationship to the body
- Life transitions, loss or grief
- Difficulties that feel hard to put into words
It can also be a powerful space for personal development, self-exploration and creative growth.
